Afrobeat is a term coined by the late Nigerian Superstar Fela Anikulapo Kuti for the unique musical hybrid he created fusing elements of Yoruba music with jazz, funk and big band. In Fela's day, his larger than life personality and massive talent dominated the genre practically eclipsing all other would be Afrobeat musicians. After Fela's passing the realm of Afrobeat opened up refucusing its spotlights on seasoned vetereans like Orlando Julius as well as the next talented generation with Femi Kuti and, innovator Lagbaja, and many others.
