Emerging from the Lagosian Heartland of Mushin and steeped in the Islamic Roots of Ajisari Music, Fuji is a percussion and vocal dominated genre of music which rose to popularity in the 1970's to become the most popular of Yoruba musical genres.

Fuji's earliest proponents were Sikiru Ayinde Barrister and Kollington Ayinla. In the 1990's Fuji overtook other seminal Yoruba music forms to become the most popular Yoruba Music.
