Born on 30th May, 1958 to the Peters family of Egbaland, Ogun State, Nigeria, Oluwashina Akanni began his musical career as a 12 year old band member of General Prince Adekunle, a renowned Juju musician.
Shina's musical talents started showing with his dexterity on the Guitar and his stage acts distinguished him. As a rising star, he performed on many occasions and was instrumental to the band's popularity and success for several years breaking up to form another band with one of his colleagues, Segun Adewale in 1977.
Together, they led the new band and waxed four albums, Skylark records, until December 1979 when the band broke up and Shina went solo. He made some solo efforts but went off the music scene for some years later.
As the adage goes, "Winners Don't Quit and Quitters Don't Win", Shina Peters bounced back to the music scene in October, 1988 with "Ace" and along with it, established a new genre of African Pop music called Afrojuju, which was widely accepted and was a huge commercial success.
From then on, the Afrojuju maestro has gained more popularity and acceptance with the release of more albums such as Shinamania, Experience, Dancing Time and Mr. President.
He has contributed in a great way to music development in Nigeria and has been a musical ambassador of our dear nation.
